Most Common Months: Purple Martins are the only birds completely dependent on humans for housing and are colony (apartment style) orientated. They are common in parts of New England, and unfortunately are absent from many other areas of New England. At one time Purple Martin’s nested in tree hollows and cliff crevices but has since abandoned these natural nesting sits for backyard man made complex. These complex should be a near a water source or have a water source available. Multiple units are suggested for better results in having Purple Martin nest in your backyard. Common from late March to September.
Feeding Habits: Flying insects, flies, bugs, dragonflies, grass hoppers, crickets, wasps, bees and mosquitoes.
